The KKPoker $555K+ Anniversary celebration event was a huge success, with many of our player community winning huge cash prizes and rewards!

On 24 August, 63 players returned for Day 2 action in the $200K GTD Tycoon Mystery Bounty tournament, with a huge $20,000 top bounty. Among them was Canadian ‘Carpincho‘ who ultimately battled through the field to be crowned champion, and with it, a massive $49,557, including over $30,000 in bounty prizes!

KKPoker chatted with ‘Carpincho’ after his epic win to learn more about his Mystery Bounty experience. Read on to learn about those key bounty prize hands, and how our champion managed to win while playing on his phone at a live poker event!

“SUCH A FUN SWEAT!”

‘Carpincho’ is no stranger to poker success, with over 12 years of experience behind him in both live and online poker tournaments and cash games. In 2023, he joined the KKPoker community after learning about the exclusive events for Canadian players, including bi-weekly leaderboards.

Despite being an experienced player, ‘Carpincho’, like many of his peers, has yet to experience Mystery Bounty format tournaments consistently, but the draw of potentially big wins via one hand keeps him coming back.

“Honestly, my mystery bounty tournament experience isn’t much. I do keep track of the average bounty value and take it into account, but I will always prefer a regular non-bounty tournament. My favourite format will always be a freezeout.” said ‘Carpincho’.

‘Carpincho’ was a big bounty winner, earning 2 x $5,000 prizes and another for more than $6,000. So ⁠how does it feel when those big mystery prizes are revealed?

“They’re such a fun sweat. The top $20,000 bounty was not hit until 4 players left so each bounty could be just under what first place money is in the tournament itself! I think my top bounty was about $6,500, which was incredible, and I nearly jumped out of my seat.”

“A BIG COOLER”

Mystery Bounty tournaments combine elements of the traditional NLH format with the bounty prizes when ITM. Therefore, a combination of strategies needs to be used throughout. How did ‘Carpincho’ adapt?

“I gamble a lot more, especially at the start of the bounty stage. Once it’s the final table, there’s a lot of prize money to play for, so the bounties have a little less value.

“Very early in the bounty stage, I had QQ vs JJ vs TT and held for two bounties. It was a big cooler my way that propelled me to a significant chip lead.”

And how did you celebrate this epic KKPoker win?

“I don’t really celebrate much when I win a big tournament, but I’ll treat my friends to a nice dinner and perhaps travel a little more, but I’ll continue to play as I normally do.”

What would you say to other KKPoker players who aspire to achieve similar success?

“Just keep working on your game and trying to take some shots at the bigger tournaments when you can. There are many satellites on KKPoker for the bigger events, both online and live. So you can play for some big money from a cheaper buy-in.

“I think the most important thing is to play within your bankroll and move down stakes when you are losing. Once you gain some momentum with results, confidence follows, and you feel comfortable moving up.”
