Jon Kyte’s Summer to Remember

JON KYTE POKER

KKPoker ambassador Jon Kyte has once again been travelling the world and is back to share details of his most recent exciting poker adventures! From NLH deep runs, a WSOP final table, and battling against poker’s best Mixed Games players, Jon made a big impression this summer in the live poker scene.

JON KYTE POKER

ELITE IN LAS VEGAS

Off the back of his epic €340,000 win in the EPT Monte Carlo €1,100 No Limit Hold’em – PokerStars Open Main Event, Jon flew to Vegas as part of the KK Elite Team, alongside qualifiers from the KKPoker Vegas Dream promotion. Over almost eight weeks, the Norwegian pro achieved nine cashes worth over $225,000!

One of Jon’s biggest accomplishments came in the $2,500 Limit Omaha 8 or Better/Stud 8 or Better event, earning $56,327 for 5th place from a 575-player field. It was another consistent performance from Jon, as in 2024, he achieved 2nd place in the same event for $148,462. This time around, he faced final table opposition from WSOP all-time bracelet leader Phil Hellmuth, with the American praising Jon during the tournament for his strategy and performance.

In the $50,000 Mixed Games: Poker Players Championship event, known to be one of the toughest live poker tournament formats ever, where he cashed for $101,526 in 16th place out of 107 entries. And in the WSOP $10,000 Main Event, Jon recorded a $40,000 cash for his deep run in 367th, a great result from the 9,735 entries.

BRAVO, BARCELONA

Back in Europe, after a brief trip to the WSOPC Samorin, Jon headed to EPT Barcelona full of confidence.

Jon’s first task was to reproduce his dazzling performance in the Open Main Event. With a massive 2,286 entries and 2,750 re-entries, the prize pool swelled to €7,251,840 and a €772,000 first-place prize. In such a large live poker tournament field, variance is high, and Jon’s chances of repeating his victory in Monte Carlo were, of course, slim. However, Jon’s vast experience, spanning over 10 years in the live poker scene, meant he could not be counted out. As the field began to thin rapidly, and only 100 players remained, Jon was still in with a shot. But more and more players found themselves at risk every hand, and ultimately Jon’s run ended in 71st place for €13,490—an excellent return on investment and another morale-boosting result heading into the Mystery Bounty event.

KKPoker community members have won big in our recent Mystery Bounty tournaments, including Canadian ‘Carpincho‘, who banked over $49,000 for winning the 5th anniversary Tycoon event. Mystery Bounty poker tournaments add an extra element of excitement and new strategy. Jon once again earned a place in the money for his performance, securing €4,750 in 89th place from the 1,004 entries.

IN THE MIX AGAIN

Jon is a highly skilled no-limit hold’em player, but as his results attest, his knowledge expands into the realm of Mixed Games. The €1,920 + 280 9-Game Mix gave Jon another opportunity to excel, and he once again delivered!

49 challengers took part, with 18 re-entries, creating a €128,640 prize pool. Due to the nature of many games being played, Mixed Games often produce smaller fields; however, this, in many ways, heightens the skill level. After two days of action, only eight players remained, all guaranteed a prize of at least €4,820.

Jon came into the final day’s play third in the chip counts, just above average stack, and navigated the action well to get three-handed against two fellow professional players in Sweden’s Jerry Ödeen and France’s Elie Nakache. With €17,820 locked up, there was still the opportunity to double it, with the winner taking away €38,600.

“Three-handed I was the short stack, but I made a big comeback!” said Jon.

“I knocked out Jerry Ödeen after a big hold’em hand where I turned two pair and got a big overbet in on the river.”

“When heads-up started, I had 1.8M chips vs 1.5M. Elie took an early lead, and then I won many hands in a row, getting my stack up to 2.6 million. I then doubled him up in PLO action with K987 vs AATT and then he won pretty much the rest of the hands.

“The final hand was in Stud where I had KK8 vs his A69, I got an 8 while he got an Ace, then all in and he got another 6 before the last card, so I needed a K or 8 for a full house, but sadly, I didn’t get it.”

A second-place finish for Jon, adding another €25,080 to his bankroll, and he had a swift break before his next battle!

ONE LAST TURBO

“After the heads-up ended, I had a 90-minute break, so I got some food and then jumped into the €1050 Hyper Turbo.”

With super-fast blind levels for live poker, Jon was quickly able to use his short stack poker knowledge and once again found himself three-handed!

“With three players left, I was second in chips this time, but after doubling up the shortstack with A6o<QTo, I jammed the rest in the SB with JTs and the same opponent had AA in BB and got the rest of my chips. Very standard stuff in a very shallow hyper-turbo tournament. Both all-ins were for around 10BB each. I came in third place, earning a nice €10,980.

“Overall, Barcelona was a very nice trip. I brought my girlfriend and I saw so many good friends once again. Pokerwise, I felt I played well, I put in the hours and the results came at the end of the trip.” added Jon.
