KKPoker is delighted to announce poker content creator Sam Insole, aka BLUFFALO SAM, as a new ambassador!
Sam exploded onto the poker content scene over the past two years, creating more than 150 YouTube videos with over 1.5M views, showing his poker life and exciting live poker hand action from both tournaments and cash games.
Sam is passionate about documenting his poker journey on and off the felt, with exciting bankroll challenges and tournament reviews. One of his most recent successes was battling through the Asian Poker Tour Teams Event to win the trophy alongside his teammate and fellow content creator, Greg ‘Greg Goes All In‘ Liow.
As well as being a poker player and content creator, Sam is also a commentator at events such as the APT.
KKPoker looks forward to partnering with Sam to aid in a shared goal of expanding the Canadian and worldwide poker community.
Hey, Sam! Congratulations on joining the KKPoker team! Tell our poker community a little bit more about yourself.
Hello, my name is Sam Insole, and I go by BluffaloSam on my YouTube Channel! I’m a 31 year old poker content creator from Vancouver, BC, Canada.
I first began playing poker 12 years ago, while I was a blackjack dealer at a casino, I met some friends and we would play .25c/.50c three handed in his living room until the sun came up! I played 1/3 for 2 years, but after a downswing I quit poker for 8 or so years. However, I returned to the game in March of 2023.
What are you most excited about in your role as a KKPoker ambassador?
I am so excited to be part of a poker community that is doing great things to grow the game in Canada, from freerolls to live event satellites, if you’re in Canada you need to be playing on KKPoker!
You started your YouTube channel 1 year ago, and have since uploaded over 150 videos. What was your reason for starting the channel and how do you balance your playing schedule?
I really wanted to start a poker vlog after being inspired by Andrew Neeme; however, it was tough 10 years ago. Editing software and computer processing power are much stronger now, and phone cameras are significantly better. So, when I started playing poker again 2 years ago, I decided to film nearly every single session I’ve played and documented my entire $100 – $100,000 bankroll challenge.
Live cash has always been my specialty. I have thousands of hours developing reads and player pool tendencies that I don’t find translate easily to tournaments. I have been focusing a lot more of my time recently on learning tournaments as I find them very exciting, and I think you’ll be seeing a lot more of me in the tournament streets in 2025!
As you transitioned from a beginner poker player, what key learning experiences or resources helped you improve your skills?
My “Aha!” moment came while watching the old high-stakes poker videos on YouTube. Seeing how ridiculously aggressive Tom Dwan really helped me change up my game, and my results started to improve dramatically.
How do you prepare for poker games, both online and live? Are there specific qualities or strategies from a poker player that you admire or have tried to incorporate into your own game?
I don’t have any special routines for preparation, I just head to the casino and play. If I’m not playing well or not feeling it, I have the luxury of calling it a day early and coming back when I’m in a better state to play. As for specific qualities, I would have to say trying to find good spots to go for some very aggressive plays, creative bluffs, and being greedy with my value bets. I really admire players like Michael Addamo and Garrett Adelstein, never afraid to go for it, but picking their spots very very well.
What has been the most challenging part of your poker journey? How did you deal with the disruption mentally and stay focused and calm?
I think everyone would say dealing with downswings is the most challenging part of poker, and I am no different. For me, playing shorter sessions really helps; trying to book small wins always feels good when you’re not running the best!
What are your overall poker goals?
Right now, I’m working hard on my tournament poker. I’d like to start getting into the $1k-$5k buy-in range for live events; that is my goal for this year. One day, I’ll take home the Triton Astronomia watch for their $100K buy-in Main Event!
What aspects of KKPoker’s platform or events do you think stand out for players?
KKPoker, for me, is all about the tournaments. It is such a great way to get started. For $40, you can satellite into three live events worth $1,600 of buy-ins. I can’t think of a better way to start building your bankroll!
What can fans and followers expect from your interactions via social media, in online games and at live events?
Mostly funny content, entertaining hand histories, crazy aggression, and maybe a few drinks if we make it into the money!
And, I wish you the best of luck trying to knock me out of any satellites to live events you see me in on KKPoker haha!
As a KKPoker ambassador, are there any specific promotions or events you look forward to hosting or participating in?
We have an upcoming Battle BluffaloSam challenge that I’m very, very excited about, running many events leading up to this where we’ll have a $1k buy-in cash game where you folks can try and stack me as many times as possible!
What advice would you give to players who are just starting their poker journey?
Have fun, have a very open mind, be willing to learn, and get your preflop ranges down!!!
Are there any other specific pieces of advice you would like to share?
If a spot is close, always err on the side of aggression, be willing to fire that bluff, or look silly, or “punt”
